Where is this card accepted?
In the European Union and elsewhere. You can use the European Health Insurance Card in any of the European Union or European Economic Area (EEA) countries and also in Switzerland.
Currently, the EEA is comprised of 27 EU member states together with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
Andorra and Monaco are not part of the EU nor the EEA and the EHIC is not accepted there.
Although this card is not accepted when seeking healthcare in Central America nor in most of the Caribbean, we strongly urge you NOT TO CANCEL THIS COVERAGE, without first getting written clearance that you will be eligible to re-enroll to allow you to return to Europe for future or follow-up medical care.
AccessHMO provides optional air evacuation protection to cover costs for specialized medical air transport for return to Europe for medical treatment.
If you have decided to settle abroad permanently, please schedule a consultation with us to discuss your long-term healthcare needs to secure lifetime protection beyond retirement.
AccessHMO has been active in European health insurance since 2001, when our leadership was invited to Prague by the Czech Ministry of Health to find a solution to the needs of tens of thousands of foreigners or ‘Expats’, in need of access to hospitals and doctors, but were denied access to the national public health insurance system due to fears of adverse selection.
We successfully responded to the challenge by establishing the region’s first private, HMO based health insurance company dedicated solely to the healthcare needs of foreign residents, in cooperation with the Czech Republic Ministry of Health’s public health insurance company, VZP.
We are proud to have served tens of thousands ever since, via our popular VZPforForeigners and Find-a-Doctor platforms throughout Europe and the Schengen Zone. AccessHMO is represented in Europe by Hamilton Hudson sro under
